Unpack Your Packaging: Beverages

You've probably noticed that juice boxes are more expensive than bottled juice - you're paying for "convenience packaging."  A few easy tips can cut your budget and get out the waste!

  • Buy beverages in returnable or easily recyclable containers (glass and aluminum)
  • Forget those foil paks and combination foil/cardboard shelf stable boxes for daily use.  The products are ok for backpacking or emergency supplies, but certainly not every day.
  • If you need to use plastic for beverages, do so sparingly - even if recyclable, there’s not a big market for downcycled plastics and a lot of it ends up baled, shipped overseas and burned for fuels.  If you do need plastic milk and water jugs (HPDE), or plastic soda bottles (PET) - make sure your town recycles them.
