Works with any water heater: from a traditional tank-type storage water heater to solar water heaters and even oil fired boiler type heaters.

No additional plumbing is required. All connections are done with hoses. You don't even have to turn off the water to your home, just the supply valves under the sink. It takes about 40 minutes to install, if you know what you're doing, otherwise call the plumber. You may get multiple outlets through one appliance, depending on your plumbing set-up, or you may need a separate one. We needed one for the main shower/bath and one for the kitchen.
