Creating the same tissue from recycled paper is much less resource-intensive and generally involves less caustic bleaches (i.e. peroxide instead of chlorine).
How to: Look for toilet tissue made from 100% recycled paper and with at least 50% post-consumer content.
Cost: Generally comparable to or slightly higher than conventional bathroom tissue
Average resource savings: 160 gallons of water for manufacturing per year and about 1/20 of a tree.
