The holidays are upon us- and we're putting a call out to all of you for a Green Christmas in a wholly different way.
Introducing the Zero Waste Christmas. A new way to celebrate. It's about living beautifully while doing no harm, creating less waste and more joy- and having your best holiday ever. One that doesn't include the post holiday credit card hangover or the usual mountain of wrapping paper in the middle of the room- but does include incredible fun memories. Can you give yourself the gift of less stress? The planet the gift of zero waste? Your friends and family the gift of meaningful connection?
Giving Great Gifts
How can your gift giving produce joy, and not create landfill debris? The Gift part comes
before the Green part- you want to actually give something that matters to the recipient,
and from there, make a greener choice.
Here are some questions to consider before making
a physical gift purchase.
• “What can I do?”: Passing our knowledge and experiences on to others in a fun
way is giving a part of ourselves to loved ones. What can you teach or lead? We
suggest family lessons. You switch off teaching what you know – how to drum,
or cheerlead, or paint – whatever you have in your personal toolkit. These
activities can generate an unexpected moment of fun. Others may take a minute
during the busy holiday season to plan activities for family members, for
example. Maybe it’s hiking or cooking or crafting. Remember, we’re seeking
connection and shared experience!
• “What do they need?”: Gifting is really about listening well and seeing even the
unspoken needs and wants of the recipient. This applies to both physical gifts
and acts of service. Perhaps Mom needs some yard cleanup. Maybe the
neighbor could use some help getting to the grocery store. There are great gifts
for everyone…and for the planet.
• “What is beautiful? Taking the time to identify what others get enjoyment from
and find beautiful allows us to really consider what makes a good gift or thought
during the holiday season. When we think about beauty at GoGreen Online, we
