Here's a revolution I can get behind: flower bombs! The Chicago Tribune reports that gardening activists are throwing fistfuls of seeds over the fences of abandoned construction sites. I love it!

Let's take action now to turn mucky mud into vibrant flower beds for next spring. Master gardener and brilliant designer Susan Randstrom sent me the recipe for a nice Flower Bomb:

  • Put equal parts clay, peat and mushroom compost in a bucket.
  • Mix in handfuls of dried wildflower seeds.
  • Add water a little at a time so that it can be formed into a ball.
  • Allow to dry a bit.
  • Hurl over cyclone fence for showy display of flowers next spring!
