A Green College?
I live in Nashville and green isn't a big movement here. Not yet. Back in March, something happened that went under the radar for most people. It's unfortunate because it should be talked about! Middle Tennessee University in Murfreesboro, TN began to charge their students $8 per semester for a "green energy" fee. This fee went to create a way of giving back the energy they were using. How? By simply working out. The campus recreational center added new elliptical machines that are attached to a converter. Everytime someone uses the machine, they convert their energy into usable energy. The machines generate 1 kilowatt hour every two days. Students continue to pay the $8 per semester fee which goes to fund green energy and options on the campus. The college is planning on putting more energy producing machines in the recreational center and adding more clean energy options on campus. This is the first of it's kind here in Tennessee. MTSU has set a standard for green energy and becoming a green campus. Other colleges in Tennessee and the United States should follow their example. The machines at MTSU are using ReRev technology. You can find out more about ReRev here at their website http://rerev.com/default.html. You can find out more about MTSU and their efforts here http://www.wsmv.com/news/22870879/detail.html
